Job Description
The Project
ACCIONA has been selected to deliver Western Harbour Tunnel – Stage 2, Sydney’s third harbour crossing. The new Western Harbour Tunnel (WHT) will connect to WestConnex at the Rozelle Interchange, cross underneath Sydney Harbour between Birchgrove and Waverton, and connect with the Warringah Freeway near North Sydney.
Project scope includes:
- Construction of approximately 4.8 kilometres of mainline tunnels with three lanes in each direction
- Civil, Mechanical and Electrical fitout of Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunnels
- Surface level work, including on and off ramps and tie-in work to the Warringah Freeway
The Opportunity
In line with the above, ACCIONA are now looking for a skilled and motivated PLC Technician to support our tunnelling operations by maintaining, troubleshooting, and modifying PLC systems and related electrical and instrumentation equipment on Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) and auxiliary plant. This role is vital to ensuring the reliable performance of key tunnelling systems, directly contributing to the safety and timely delivery of the project
Key accountabilities for the position:
- Diagnose and resolve faults in PLC-controlled TBM systems and update software and hardware as needed.
- Maintain and repair PLC and electrical systems for auxiliary equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Install, troubleshoot, and calibrate electrical components and instrumentation across various systems.
- Follow all safety regulations, perform LOTO procedures, and ensure work meets quality and compliance standards.
- Keep accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and PLC changes, and prepare technical performance reports.
- Collaborate with project personnel and communicate technical issues and solutions clearly and effectively.
- Identify system improvement opportunities and stay current with PLC technologies and best practices.
- Provide hands-on troubleshooting and support for electrical and control systems during operations and commissioning.
Required Skills and Competencies
Capability & Experience you will need to have:
- Trade qualification as an Electrician with relevant post-trade qualifications in PLC programming and industrial automation or equivalent Engineering qualification.
- Proven experience in troubleshooting, maintaining, and modifying PLC systems (Siemens S7, Allen-Bradley ControlLogix/CompactLogix).
- Specific experience working on Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs).
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
